Meet Emily

Hey there, I’m Emily!

Most days you can find me at my computer with my Shih Tzu, Nala, on my lap and The Office playing in the background or with a few friends over, just hanging out. I love being surrounded by people, but I also love to be home, which is the perfect combination for me to be the hostess with the mostest!

I grew up in Nebraska and I fall in love with open spaces and dirt roads over and over again. I've been married to my husband Derek since May of 2015 and we have two of the cutest fur babies. I love snuggling on the couch, and long car rides. My heart belongs to my Savior Jesus Christ and all the glory goes to Him, which is why you can find Romans 11:36 at the end of every blog post.

I am mostly known for my sarcastic humor and my calming presence. I’ve been told by many people that when I’m around, they don’t feel stressed or worried. On a wedding day, that’s absolute GOLD!

I love serving the world by treating each and every couple like their wedding day is the most important thing. Your wedding day is one of the best days ever, and I like to think that your wedding day is one of my best days too!

The things I am most passionate about in life are wedding cake and chai lattes. But on a more serious note, I am passionate about sharing stories. I love hearing about how a couple met or how they got engaged, and then having the opportunity to share that story through their photos. I serve couples who desire to have their story told. I’m seriously so honored and humbled every single time a couple chooses me to spend their wedding day with them! I couldn’t dream of a better job!

Speaking of shooting weddings, let me tell you how I got into the wedding world. After getting engaged to my now husband, I realized I LOVED everything about weddings. So, when my then fiancé’s brother got engaged, I offered to photograph their wedding for free. I had shot some seniors and families at that point, but had always been terrified of weddings. After they accepted my offer, I realized I really had to get into gear! I second shot a couple of weddings and tried to learn as much as I could in the months leading up. I have to say, looking back I had no clue what I was getting myself into or what I was doing, but I made it work! 4 years later, I’ve learned a ton and have experienced a lot!

As a photographer, I’ve shot over 75 weddings in the course of 3.5 years and I’ve been published in Rocky Mountain Bride Magazine, both in print and online. My work has been featured in Wyoming Weddings Magazine, Borrowed & Blue, and Modern Weddings. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art with an emphasis in Photography from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

When I’m not busy working on weddings, you can find me spending time with my husband and my two pups. We love to go on walks, play board games, spend time with our friends and family, and hang out at coffee shops.

If you’re dying to hear more, here are five things you may not know about me:

1.    I studied abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland for a semester, which is where my husband proposed to me. I could be found exploring castles and meeting the greatest people.

2.    I once had a dark room in my basement, where I was able to develop black and white film and prints. Someday I’d like to get back to that!

3.    I love Milk Duds and Chewy Sprees.

4.    I have a red 1966 Volkswagen Beetle named Howard.

5.    I’m way more likely to cry when a dog dies in a movie than a person.
