One of my favorite things about lifestyle family sessions is how they capture real moments—kids running barefoot in the grass, laughter echoing through the trees, and the unique personality of each family shining through. This recent session on a family farm was no exception, and it even came with an unexpected (and very persistent) guest: their goat!
From the moment I arrived, it was clear this session would be full of adventure. The family’s goat decided to tag along for every photo, trailing behind us as we explored the farm. It was the perfect little sidekick, adding so much personality to the images!
We started in the yard, where the kids played freely, giggling as they ran through the grass. They took turns climbing in their tree net, and chasing the ducks. Their joy was contagious, and I loved capturing those unscripted moments of pure happiness.
Next, we wandered to the house, where popsicles and apples were a tasty treat. The simple joy of farm life was so evident in these moments—the way they shared apples, tossed cores into the grass, and laughed at the goat sneaking a few bites for itself.
Then, we picked flowers, the kids gathering bouquets of orange blooms. Instead of taking them inside, they had another idea—tossing them into the pond and watching them float away. The sunlight reflected off the rippling water as petals drifted across the surface, creating such a dreamy, storybook-like scene.
And, of course, we couldn’t forget about the turkey and ducks! They roamed freely in the background, adding another fun and unexpected touch to the images. At one point, they even strutted right into the frame, completely unfazed by our presence. It’s moments like these that make farm sessions so magical—every element, from the animals to the landscape, adds to the story in an organic, beautiful way.
By the end of the session, the kids were barefoot, grass-stained, and happily exhausted—exactly how childhood should be. Their parents held them close, wrapping up the session with sweet, quiet moments full of love.
This session was everything I love about lifestyle photography—real, raw, and full of personality. Capturing families in their element, surrounded by the people, animals, and places they love, makes for the most meaningful and authentic images. And if a goat happens to photobomb half the session? Even better!
