Jannika and Michael’s United States reception at Quiet Creek Event Center in Atlantic, Iowa was the sweetest kind of celebration, the kind that feels relaxed, intentional, and completely centered around the people who matter most.
Earlier this year, these two were married in Finland (how dreamy is that?!), but they knew they wanted to celebrate stateside with their family and friends, too. So they planned a reception here in Iowa that felt personal, joy-filled, and perfectly them.
And honestly? It was such a beautiful way to do it.
There’s something really special about a stateside reception after an international wedding. The pressure is off. The timeline is relaxed. Everyone is just there to celebrate.
Jannika and Michael spent the evening hugging relatives, laughing with friends, and soaking in every minute. No rushing from event to event, just genuine connection and a whole lot of joy.
One of my favorite parts of the day? Their dogs got to be part of this celebration.
They weren’t able to travel to Finland for the wedding, so making sure they were included here was important. And let me tell you, they absolutely stole the show for a few minutes. There’s something about couples with their dogs that just feels like home. It added such a personal layer to the afternoon and made these photos feel even more meaningful.
If you’ve ever been near Atlantic, you know how beautiful those rolling fields can be. And this evening gave us the dreamiest golden light.
We snuck away for a few sunset portraits, with the wide-open fields glowing behind them. The sky put on a show with pinks and purples stretching over the hills, soft light wrapping around them, the kind of sunset that makes you pause for a second and just take it in.
It felt peaceful. Romantic. Effortless.
As the sun dipped and the celebration carried on, we ended the night with sparkler photos, which are always a favorite. There’s something about that warm glow and the excitement in the air that feels like the perfect exclamation point to a celebration.
Surrounded by the people who love them most, sparklers lighting up the dark Iowa sky, it was such a joyful way to close out the evening.
Jannika and Michael’s day was a beautiful reminder that weddings don’t have to fit into one box. You can say “I do” overseas and still gather your people at home. You can have multiple celebrations. You can include your dogs. You can chase the sunset across a field in Iowa.
Love is worth celebrating, however and wherever you choose to do it.
Jannika and Michael, I’m so grateful I got to document this chapter of your story. What a perfect way to bring your Finland wedding full circle.
