Wishing Hills Barn Wedding
There’s something extra special about photographing local weddings. Being surrounded by familiar faces, celebrating with families who call the same community home, and documenting a love story rooted right here in western Iowa always makes the day feel even more meaningful. Chloe and Wyatt’s late summer wedding at Wishing Hills Barn in Missouri Valley, Iowa was exactly that kind of day.
As guests arrived, the weather kept everyone guessing. It was one of those classic late-summer Midwest days—warm, humid, and overcast, with rain clouds threatening to roll in at any moment. But despite the forecast, there was an undeniable excitement in the air as family and friends gathered to celebrate Chloe and Wyatt.
One of the most beautiful details of the day was the incredible floral design. Chloe’s mom supplied the flowers, filling the venue with gorgeous arrangements of pink and cream roses. From the bouquets to the ceremony décor, every floral detail felt elegant, romantic, and perfectly suited to the barn’s charming setting. The soft colors added such a beautiful contrast to the rich greens of late summer.
Speaking of green, the bridesmaids looked stunning in a collection of different shades and styles of green dresses. I always love when bridal parties embrace a mix-and-match look because it allows everyone’s personality to shine while still creating a cohesive and timeless aesthetic. Against the soft floral palette and rustic backdrop of Wishing Hills Barn, the colors photographed beautifully.
Just as the ceremony began, a light rain started to fall. Thankfully, it only lasted for a few moments and never became more than a passing sprinkle. In fact, it ended up creating one of the most memorable moments of the entire day. As Chloe and Wyatt walked back down the aisle as husband and wife, a rainbow appeared in the sky behind them. It felt like the perfect blessing on their marriage and had everyone smiling and pointing toward the colorful display.
The rest of the evening unfolded exactly as a wedding should, filled with laughter, heartfelt conversations, and plenty of celebration. Friends and family gathered inside Wishing Hills Barn to enjoy the reception, sharing stories and making memories with the newlyweds. The overcast skies actually made for wonderful portrait conditions throughout the day, giving us soft, flattering light for photos without the harsh late-summer sun.
One of my favorite things about Chloe and Wyatt’s wedding was how centered it was around family. From the flowers lovingly provided by Chloe’s mom to the support of their local community, every part of the day reflected the people who mean the most to them. It was a reminder that weddings aren’t just about beautiful details. They’re about the relationships and connections that bring everyone together.
